For the new WMATA Headquarters in Alexandria, Capital Energy Equipment furnished Acutherm Thermally Powered VAV Diffusers with digital wall adjusters, enabling fine-grained temperature control for interior zones without additional power to the diffuser.

Challenge

Deliver individualized comfort across open offices, conference rooms, and enclosed spaces while maintaining energy performance and minimizing controls complexity in a large, multi-tenant workplace.

Solution

Deployed thermally powered VAV diffusers paired with local digital adjusters to give occupants setpoint control within a defined range. The diffusers modulate based on room temperature — reducing reheat, improving balance, and simplifying branch-level controls.

Results

Improved comfort and user satisfaction with fewer hot/cold calls, streamlined commissioning, and enhanced energy efficiency aligned with the project’s sustainability objectives.
